Default Desktop with HDTV help

Hi everyone,

I don't know much about computers and I don't know if this is even possible, but I am planning on buying a home desktop by itself without the screen, which should have a T.V. out or S-Video out. I want to hook it onto a 32 inch Flat Screen HDTV and used it as a normal home desktop as well as a T.V. for watching favorite movies and stuff.

Is this a plug and play thing from the desktop to the HDTV or do I have to configure something with the PC first. I have a laptop now and the only way I know of to watch something on a T.V. is to plug in the S-Video and go to Properties, Settings and Display 2. default Monitor.

The question is, how can I do that properties, setting thing without a screen to start out with except for the HDTV? Do I also have to buy a PC screen, then configure it to work with the HDTV or is there some kind of trick? I know that I need the right wire plugs, but can anyone help me out with this problem? Has anyone done this before?

Oh, and by the way, I don't need to see High Definition Quality pictures from the HDTV, I just want to see a movie that is playing from the desktop PC to my HDTV. It doesn't matter if its only regular quality picture, as long as I can see and watch a movie, then its great because I think there may be more complicated issues in working with HD than I can handle.

Thanks Everyone and I Hope to Hear Some Responses.

Default Desktop with HDTV help

Hi mate. I have the same thing using a 37inch HDTV. I use the VGA out from the Graphics card from the PC to the VGA input on the HDTV. Check to see what inputs the TV has...I tried running a DVI out to the HDMI socket on the TV, but either the card/drivers or TV dont wanna resize it to see the full desktop.
So if the TV has a VGA input socket then you are away...

Thanks for the response,

And lets say that the HDTV I am going to buy has all the neccessary inputs and the desktop PC also has all the neccessary outputs

My question is, Do I need to configure anything using a desktop PC monitor before using the HDTV, or can I just plug in the VGA plug with the HDTV and it'll work automatically? If I do need to configure something on the desktop, How would I go about configuring it without a PC monitor because I'm hoping not to have to buy one?

Like I said with my Laptop, I had to always go to properties, setting and display in order to use the s-video.

Thanks and Hope for your replies.

Your welcome. Well most HDTVs today have a native resolution of 1360x768, so you need to go into the desktop properties of the PC and change the resolution to that..or whatever it says in the manual. Thats it.BTW..Native resolution is the best resolution that the monitor/TV will perform at.
