Hi
I've been getting a Dr. Watson error when downloading photos and Video (mostly video) from my Canon digital camera to my PC.
I'm thinking there may be conflict between codecs somewhere. My Olympus camera uses .mov files and my Canon uses .avi.

My Olympus is old and I never had a problem opening the .mov extention - it's a 4 year old camera - shoots low res video.

I got the Canon this Christmas and it shoots 640x480 using .avi extension video.

Now my Olympus .mov files sometimes take forever to open. But I get the doc watson error when trying to download video from my new canon (.avi movie format).

Is there a codec conflict and how do I fix it if there is?

okay...

Excuse me for being slow but I know bugger all about Dr. Watson. It's an exception handling dump creator on several Microsoft operating systems, so it gets called when a program crashes. What I don't know yet is what program you were running when the crash happened and Dr. Watson was invoked. Can you make a guess?

Or does the dumpfile exist?

Or the Dr. Watson logfile?

I know very little about this sort of thing.

What I do know is this happens when, in windows xp home os, I plug in my Canon PowerShot A650IS, turn it on and the Canon Camera Utilities appears. I click on it to download the video I took with my Canon still camera and this is what I get:

"Canon Utilities CameraWindow DC

Canon Utilities Camera Window DC has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
Wh have crfated an error report that you can send to help us improve Canon utilities CameraWindow DC. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous."

And it then goes on to ask me to send or don't send the report.

If I hit the little red x in the upper right on the Canon Utilities box (get out of it before doing anything) and click on my start button and then select My Computer and click on the Canon camera from there it seems to work fine - so far.
