A DVD film is more than 4GB so it will not fit.

Even if you shrink it it will be tight.

Not sure if it is even possible to do films because of the data size.

Yep .... as Dave says, you cant just copy them over.
You will need a conversion program that will transcode the DVD and set it at the correct resolution and aspect ratio.
A program like DVDFab Platinum can do it and lots besides, but it's not free.
I believe it needs to be a MPEG-4/H.264 MP4 file

You could try Sothink DVD ripper
http://www.sothink.com/product/dvd-ripper/
I've used it, I think the free is a 30 day trial, so it could be sufficient enough for a few DVd's.

TMPGEnc Express will do this too. The files for a Nano screen will be pretty small, but 4Gb will not hold many hours of video!

When you think about it, viewing a cinemascope film on an iPod isn't exactly comfortable!

Look at Videora too.

lol i worked it out myself thanks for the replys long winded though but it comes out well for a 783mb video;

use nero to create an iso, mount iso as an image on daemon tools, then use dvd decrypter to remove the lock on the image, and then use handbrake to convert the final video to how ever you want, plus u can keep the iso to keep a back up incase you lose a dvd.

sorry if i wasnt ment to say that

and comes out pretty well on the ipod nano, and for the info to people, its the brand new ipod nano 4th gen one, so its an 8Gb not a 4Gb as people have said

Don't see a problem with adapting media you have paid for to work on another platform, albeit a legal grey area.

Thanks for posting a solution.
