so lets say you took a picture of something but you just dont like the backround well im genna tell you how to extract a certain part out of an image

1.) start by opening the image that you would like to take part of it out then go to the menu filter>extract The tool you need to trace it should be aready cut out now just trace along the image you would like to cut out when you are done tracing it should look something like this (dont worry about getting it too good)

2.) now in that same extrac screen on the top left you will see a paint bucket tool click on that and move your mouse in between were the green lines are and click and you should get something like this

3.) now press ok and you should get your image cut out that you want to! it should look like this

4.) now this doesnt look the best so just take your eraser tool and zoome in a bit using ctrl + at the same time (ctrl - at the same time to zoom out) now just touch it up a bit and you should be left with something like this

Now there is an alternitive method to do this FOR WHITE BACKROUND OR SINGLE COLOR BACKROUND ONLY!!!
1.) first thing open your image then click on select>color range and a box should pop up with the eye dropper tool just click on your image that you opened the while backround then just hit ok and your left with something like this

2.) now just go to select>inverse and then hit delete and no backround!!! now you can put this on a different backround

Ok so now im going to show you how to put the image on a different backround this is pretty basic
1.) again have the image you cut out open and the image of the new backround open then just make shure the back arrow is selected (top left) then drag the picture you cut out onto the new backround and you should get something like this

2.) now just press the r button (this opens smudge tool) then just smidge up the edges of the image you just added and it will look like this

hope this has been helpful

I get so mad. I can perfectly cut part of an image out of a photo but then only half of the time I get the background to be transparent. I don't know what it is I do wrong lol. Really frustrating!!!

Yes gimp. Say you cut a face out of a picture then want to put it on something else you need the background to be transparent instead of white.

I see you've become more firmiliar with PS Computeruler.
Just a word of advise, use a smaller smuge tool next time with maybe 30-45% opacity
Pretty good compared to the picture you sent me over msn a while back though.
