I have never had to pay anything with that program. I got it about 6-7 months ago.

ive got this multimedia HDD

http://go.iomega.com/section?SID=775...35&secid=39289

basically ive got a movie file and its mpg PAL format i think (i really dont know what format it is it just says .mpg) and when i copy it to my HDD and connect it to my tv it comes up but its an unkown format so what i do is convert the original file on my computer to the following avi, mpgII wmv and mp4 and i then transfer it back to my HDD to play on tv

avi works perfect

mpegII: it works but sound and video arnt in sync with eachother

wmv: is an unkown format as it doesnt appear in my HDD playlist on tv

mp4: the same as wmv doesnt come up, but on the link i gave you it says it supports mp4?!?

Mp4 is for video files
Mp3 is for audio files
Avi is a universal audio/video format
Wmv is for Windows Media Player files

There are many many file formats for different players. Realplayer is Rma I think. iTunes is ITL and on and on.

You can find what most are here http://dotwhat.net/

If it was converted improperly or something is wrong in the file it could cause it to be unplayable by some devices.

Be sure you are using a good media converter. Quick Media Converter or Any Video Converter are good.

Do you mean your CD drive?

Also what media player are you using? Windows Media Player?

There is a really good one I've been using for years. Unfortunately only Prism is free, and the Pro version cost money, but if it's only Mpeg->Avi you wouldn't need it. You can download it here: http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/index.html
A question for you though, why do you want to convert Mpeg to Avi?
Most of the time I'm doing the opposite action)

Not sure if this is now a dead thread or not, but it may not necessarily be the format, just that you don't have the codecs to allow it to play - are all you're codecs up to date?
