I hired a pc tech to fix this problem about 6 months ago. He fixed the problem but after he left I kept getting an "install raid Controler" message. I tried using the utilities disc to install it but no luck. I finally took it back to where I bought it and they fixed it so there is no Raid Controler message, but now I can't get video AGAIN.........arghhhh!

My ps is a couple of years old......ADM 64x2 with Dual core Processor 2.41ghz
Its an SLI Platinum Board with two px7950 GT video cards (nVidia).

It's enough for me but it's so frustrating not being able to just download my Canon Camera (.avi ext) videos and watch them - when I was doing fine last week!

My operating system is Windows XP.........never up-graded to Vista.

I usually have trouble watching video with the Windows Media Player so I downloaded (a long time ago) the VLC software and it's been great........plays most any format.

I can only watch videos that are downloaded from YouTube to RealPlayer SP at this time. I was using just RealPlayer until a week or so ago and upgraded to the SP player (pop-up prompted me to do that so I did).

I thought maybe I needed to download new drivers for my nvidia cards so I went to the web site and downloaded a 7900 series (2009) driver, but it had an "i" at the end (7900i).?? My PC would not boot up properly after that because it deleted the old nVidia software and I should not have loaded the new one. I put the utilities disc in again and it sorted itself out, but I still can't get video - only audio.

HELP - Please,

Gary

Shouldn't be the vid cards, those or the drivers themselves rarely have an affect on audio.

Have you tried downloading any codec packs?

Sounds to me like your missing the codec for the format of audio that is contained in the .avi

Try downloading something like the DivX bundle, or K-Lite which will give you several options for audio stuff.

I got plenty of codecs and drivers - I think my video cards are not talking to the monitor or there's a box "checked or unchecked" somewhere but I don't know where. I think it's something simple but I don't have enough pc knowhow to do that.
thanks,
Gary

Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshooting, where's the hardware acceleration slider at?

Might try reducing that incrementally and see if that fixes it or at least helps.

No - that's not helping.
I think it's got somethong to do with the setup of the video cards / monitor etc. I went through this before but I can't remember the "fix".........@%#**

THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING BECAUSE I KNOW IT'S THE WAY THEY (where I bought the pc) set the SLI BOARD up with the Bridged video cards. It's got something to do with that - the way the video cards are set up and I know it's a simple fix.

I will be taking to the shop next Friday I guess. I could watch my .avi files and .mov files before I took it in there for repairs last week so it's got something to do with the way they fixed my monitor. I took it in because the pc was taking forever to boot up and my monitor would not come on.

As an aside they found that one of my hard drives was "toast" so they gave me one - on warranty - I had it built there two and half years ago.

Thanks for your help though.

There was nothing wrong with my monitor or pc. It worked fine in the repair shop. Video & Audio working fine..

I have problems at MY house though........it's about 120 degrees in my pc room................The techs and the owner of the repair shop said HEAT is a problem and that is probably what the issue was.

I'm using a 6 year old Dell in the lower reaches of my house...it's cool down here. I will connect my bc back up in the HOT room when the weather changes. We have a heat wave here and it's been in the low 40's celsius (well over 100F) for a while now. I NEED AIR!!
