Default How to RIP

Hi.

Just recently i managed to convert some old camcorder footage of my own (not porn, lol) onto a dvd. Now,with my very limited knowledge of computers i got the dvd to play on my laptop but the audio/images seem to loose some quality in the process. What i'd like to know is: can anyone tell me how i can get this stuff onto my hard drive for uploading in the future,or does anyone know of a good link that's so easy to follow that a dufus like me could understand it (the ones on YouTube seem a bit vague).

I told you i knew squat

Many thanks, chandler.

Not sure of your use of terminology here ....
when you say "how i can get this stuff onto my hard drive for uploading in the future" and your thread title says "How to Rip" ... I'm a bit confused.

What exactly are you trying to achieve ? and what do you mean by uploading ?

Thanks for the reply btw.

What i'm trying to say is that i've got my 'stuff' put on dvd and in order to put it on YouTube i guess i need to store it on my computer (hard drive??) in order to do this.
I've worked out how to store pictures for uploading but not video. It's the bit in the middle i'm struggling with.

cheers.

It will depend on how you have stored it on the DVD. If you have converted your videos to DVD format, so as they playback in a standalone DVD player, you will not be able to upload these directly to Youtube.

Youtube accepts certain video formats, such as WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG, but a DVD contains VOB Files and these are not compressed enough for YouTube.

These pages at YouTube give a bit more info :
