Hey i have a laptop that has Windows XP Home Edition. the problem im having is i cannot burn any songs in to my cd-r disk, it has started to happen few days ago the laptop is like 3 years old and i pretty much doubt it that there is problem with my burner. i mean it will burn pictures but not songs, i tried using various programmers for it to burn but just won't go though, i also use windows media player 11 but that gives me an error like windows encountered an error make sure your burner is connected to the internet. something like that, does anyone know weather it's my settings that is messed up or is it my dvd burner? i mean if i reinstall windows will that help at all? please help me out on this any kind of assistance would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hey not sure weather this will help but from what you said it sounds like a music problem.Could the music you be tryingto burn have copyright protection on it.Cause when you rip a cd to the HDD it gives youvthe option to add copyright protection on it, so you can`t copy it to another disk.

Can you burn any type of disk ... i.e. a data disk, CDR or DVDR or has the burner stopped working altogether ?

Also can you read disks ok ... i.e. CDs and DVDs ?

To start with, what we need to know here is .... does the burner work or has it failed.
Forget songs for the moment ....... If you can burn data CDRs and DVDrs, it will help to narrow down the problem.
Also I would suggest using a decent Burning program, like Nero, as the inbuilt Windows burning feature is not too reliable at the best of times. If you need help using Nero, please shout.

Please give us much information about what works and what doesn't ... also what error messages (if any) you encounter.

Then we can look at songs and how you are trying to burn them
