heres a cool tutorial on how to make lightning
1.) open any image you want to put the lightning in i will just use this pic
2.)right click on the backround layer and make a duplicate layer now use a brush that has no hardness and white color and make something like this
3.) now fill in the other side with black (still no hardness) and keep in mind were these 2 colors meet the lightning will be but you can change it later if its not perfect and it should look like this
4.) now go to filter>render> difference cloud the inverse it by going to image>adjusments>invert or ctrl+i and then go to image>adjustments>levels and drag the black one to the right untill you like the lightning bolt and if there are still some cloudy areas when you are done with this you can just earse it with the earaser and then in the layers pallete with the layer with the lighning bolt selected change the blending mode to screen and you get this
i moved the lightning bolt over because you couldnt see it with the cloud in the way and there you go!! lightning!!
