Hi. I have a Dell Dimension 3100, relatively new, CD drive and DVD drive both working properly, according to Device manager. However, I cannot get any sound through my speakers or headphones. If I try to access the volume control, it tells me I have no active mixer devices available. From the Control panel's Sounds & Audio Devices section, it confirms there is no audio device. The Audio tab is totally greyed out.

I'd like to listen to music, the sound tracks on video's etc. Can anyone suggest how to get back to where I used to be - with this function fully available?

One of your Dell CDs will be labeled Drivers.

Run it and install the sound drivers.
