I have a problem with no sound on my Packard bell PC with XP media edition. I have 2 sound drivers (ASUSTek tiger capture device and Realtek AC 97 audio) both say in properties driver is enabled but has not been started. I have tried various measures without success and I fear I may have worsened the situation. I previousley had yellow !'s next to the microsoft kernal drivers with a code 42 but have now deleted the drivers from the legacy audio drivers and media control devices and can't seem to get them back. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and updating drivers. I have also checked, deleted and reinstalled the plug and play enumerator. I have tried the system restore but that would always fail and now I have no restore points. I cannot reinstall windows as the pc came pre installed. Can anyone offer any help.

A reinstall is going to be your best bet.

What brand is the PC, even though you didn't get a CD the recovery software may be stored on the PC.

High thanks for the reply, the pc is Packard Bell but I think all the workings are NEC. I have tried system restore before but it wouldn't work and now there are no restore points. Is it possible to reinstall windows without a cd?
