Hey guys, new to the forum -

Having a few problems playing DVDs on my computer, in any kind of player, WMP11, WINDVD, Real Player, everything. Basicaly, ill put the disk in, (Any DVD, tried both regions). The auto-Play box comes up, I'd select any of the programs that comes up, and any of the programs i try, freezes, and goes "Not Responding". I have played DVDs on this PC before, so i know its definatly capable of playing them, but it doesnt play new, or old one, its rather anoying as listening to music while doing coursework gets boring after a while and playing a DVD is slightly more interesting

Anyway, thanks for any input

Can the drive read/play CDs ?

Can the drive read data DVDs ? ..... or, if you have a movie DVD inserted, go to "My Computer" right click the drive and select "Explore" ... can you see the VIDEO_TS Folder and open it, to view its contents ?

Make sure you reboot after installing it.

If the codec pack doesn't resolve it, check your DMA settings haven't reverted to PIO Mode.

Go to Device Manger IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers ... right click the channel where your drive is located, select Properties/Advanced and check that either DMA or Ultra DMA is enabled.
