Heyy,
Just reinstalled a old(ish) pc onto windows 2000, and when I checked for what drivers i need, its come up with 'USB - Universal Serial Bus' as and unknown device, and cant find drivers for it.... I was always of the belief that USB doesnt need any drivers, this pc has 2.0 capable bus's if that makes any difference. Whats really odd though, is that ive had a USB mouse plugged in, as well as a memory stick, and they both work fine, installing fine also. Whilst its obviously working, just wondering if someone could enlighten me as to why its is doing this, and what it actully means? Cheers all, MCTW |

windows 2000 has the generic usb 1.1 drivers but if you want the speed of the usb 2.0 version you will need the usb 2.0 drivers

oh i see, that makes sense then. is there a generic driver for 2.0? or does it have to be motherboard/chipset specific? This board is no longer supported you see.

usually they are motherboard/chipset specific, search around google with your motherboard details you might find the drivers that way

sorted :-D installed service pack 4 (once i found it!), told windows to update the drivers, and worked straight away! Even though it did cut of my mouse, keyboard and wireless which caused a momentary panic! seems that service pack includes generic drivers for 2.0, on a closer look though, its an intel chipset, which might have helped? Dont know, but heyy, it works now. Thanks for your help :-)

no problem glad to be of somehelp, when the drivers are being updated it does temporary disconnect the usb devices as it is restarting the service under the new drivers.
