Default What Format Do I Need My Videos in when Burning Them to DVD-R

Hey guys,
A friend of mine has just sent me some footage of him at the racing tracks on his new dirtbike and has asked me to burn it to DVD-R so his grandparents can watch it on the normal dvd player as a thank you because they bought it him. problem is the file is in .FLV format and i wasn't sure what format i have to convert it to , so its compatible with normal dvd players. My FLV converter has presented me with options DVD(pal) or DVD(ntsc), are either of these fine to use , i was thinking DVD(pal) would work?

PAL or NTSC, depends where you are.

PAL is newer, I'm not sure if the countries with NTSC can play PAL though.
But according to your flag, England is PAL, so no need to worry.
Basically it the resolutions that affect quality. You can try converting to both, and before burning onto a DVD, view them on your computer, and see which one is better.

You need PAL for the UK, but in order to play it on a standalone DVD Player, you need to convert he file(s) to a DVD Compliant vobset .... i.e there must be a VIDEO_TS Folder, containing .ifo , .bup and .vob files.

There are various software packages that will do this and allow you to burn in the correct format.
ConvertXto DVD is one .... Nero Vision is another ...... have you got the software to do this ?

Just burn it to DVD directly. No need to convert the format. That's what dvd burner does.

That is not correct ..... for the file to play on a standalone DVD Player, it has to be converted. The DVD Burner will not do this, it will just burn the file to the disk, as data and this will not be recognised by most standalone players.
