No! jpeg's dont take more memory than bitmaps. jpegs are compressed pictures while bitmap (.bmp) filese occupy way more space/memory.

JPEGs take up much less room than Bitmaps. Most programs that save pictures as JPEGs will give you a quality or compression option. I often find that going as low as 50% quality makes no difference to the look of the picture but takes up even less room!

no, jpeg is compressed with matrix algorithm in mapping the picture, while bitmap is not, it just put one pixel color in one slot mapping (one slot has same size, 8 bit, 16 bit, 32 bit, and soon, depend on the picture color quality).but if you want smaller size with the same quality try:gif or png, use any picture editor (like microsoft paint), use "save as" then chose the format.

No, JPEGS's take less space. Why do you try it out. Save a picture as a JPEG and then as a BMP and see the size difference.

NO! Bitmaps actually take more space. The BMP file format has four (4) compression fields (bi_rgb, bi_rle4, bi_rle8 and bi_bitfields). The last has no compression.JPEG is a better alternative for still images of photographic quality. It uses less space.

Generally Jpegs take up less space than bitmaps because of compression, however.... the higher the resolution of a jpeg the bigger the file. So you should try it out with one shot, save it in jpeg and save it in bmp and see which one is bigger.

MS paint saves uncompressed PNG's which are larger than jpeg's in most cases. Jpeg also has a better compression rate for quality than do PNG's.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG Well take a look at this article this exactly shows how much compression does one can archive with JPEG without significant change in picture .
