Default Windows Media Player 11 - extra codec needed ?

Hi everyone

I have a fairly new computer which has Windows Vista Premium OS and comes with WM player 11. I have noticed that I can never seem to open / stream video clips on the bbc news website. If I click on a link, a new window opens but says 'connecting to media' and then just sits there and nothing ever happens or starts. I know I have had to wait for the clip to download but in this case it seems to take an eternity ! Would it be because I need extra software; I know I have had to download a codec before for WM player, thats all ?

thanks

Hi again

I downloaded Codec Pack All-In-1 6.0.3.0 from the link that you mentioned, installed it but doesn't seem to improve matters. Any other thoughts ?

thanks

I specifically recommend you install the K-lite Mega codec pack. That should take care of it for you.

Default Windows Media Player 11 - extra codec needed ?

HI

I have downloaded the codec software packages suggested so far and still have had no joy ! Is it likely to be an issue with OS (WIN VISTA premium) or the antivirus firewall (NIS 2007) ?? Its no real big deal but just would be nice to fix. I did wonder whether to change the software from WM player (default) to Real player ? Can someone please remind me how to do this ?

thanks

K-lite Mega Pack should have worked.

Have you tried turning off the firewall while watching or downloading the video?

WMP11 is, in a word, lousy. It can't even separate audio streams for crying out loud!

VLC Freeware is chock-full of supported (and widely recognised) audio and video codecs.

Works with all flavours of Vista.
