Default Windows movie maker importing trouble

"FILENAME.avi could not be imported. The required codec was not downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check box is not selected in the Options dialog box."

I have tried searching on the internet but cannot really gt to grips with what it means or what needs to be done to fix the problem?

I am working on a network so I am not sure if that makes any difference, but nothing is protected in any way as i'm at home.

From what I gathered from the net I need to download something or maybe convert my files?

any help pleaseee? thank you in advance

Try downloading the K-Lite Codec Pack.
http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/

The problem you are having is because the XVID codec isn't working properly, but the K-Lite pack should fix it.

Make sure you reboot after you install it.

Go to preferences and disable all the codecs but the ones you need. Should take a few minutes to get it narrowed down, but you'll have no crashing.

That is a problem with your system rather than K-Lite. Lots of people have no problems with K-Lite.
