Default Windows Vista Audio Problem

I'm not sure what I did but my volume hasn't been working for the past two weeks and its getting annoying. Instead of the normal volume icon it has an "X" through it. When I click on it, it says enable and I press ok, But then nothing. any help would be appreciated :)

That means the sound is muted. Go to volume control and uncheck the mute button. There may also be a mute key on your keyboard where it will show like a speaker without sound waves or a speaker with sound waves. That also will mute and unmute the sound. if you cant find one then right click on the little icon with the X and go to open volume control and uncheck the box that says mute.

Im not that dumb to think that its muted. I tried installing drivers but it didn't work, it still won't start up. Its a HP Pavillion DV9000 notebook.

you got vista?

if so go to start type in 'info' and it will find the system info icon, click that, then find your sound tab, it will tell you the model of the sound card etc

give us that, or

wheres the link you got the drivers? unless you installed them from a cd

either way give us both source and model
