if you are using firefox you may have the faster fox add-on installed
i had it enabled and noticed that half the images on the web pages wouldn't load so i went to about:config and reset everything to default minus the skin and it was all fine until i enabled faster fox again, the problems returned.
so if you have faster fox and noticed these problems un-install it, go to the browser adress bar and type in "about:config" and scroll down changing all the user set variables to default (reset) but leave the ones to do with colors and skins. if you need a more detailed explanation ask

if you have fasterfox installed and noticed none of the above problems keep the program installed

Most of the things that Fasterfox does were good using the older builds of the Firefox browser. Most of the tweaks it provides were built into FF 2.0 and up, so yes it can be counter productive for some. It creates conflicts.
