http://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firefox_3.0b5 has the timetable for the next beta which looks like it might be out on April 3rd. None of the developers could guess yet how many more betas there will be - how could they? There's no deadline for a Firefox 3 release, who would impose one? We could have a pool if you like and see who guesses closest.

Each beta goes through a succession of release candidates. I'm not sure they'd change the naming to make it clear that they were dealing with the final beta before the production release. Some developers do it that way, some don't. Using a pre-production release candidate sequence adds one more layer on top of the alpha/beta test schedule, Firefox I'm sure is less stringent than that.
Looking at that schedule again, I bet someone thought it would be fun to push out beta 5 on April 1st. I'm not sure it sounds wise. There's still just time to see it happen. |

Beta 4 just came out March 10th, 2008. Has to be a joke.
Just did a search, looks like Mozilla does do RCs. http://developer.mozilla.org/devnews...-for-download/ |

According to Mozilla, there have been 750 changes from the previous beta, improving stability and web compatibility, providing platform and user interface enhancements, and resulting in the fastest FireFox ever. Not only that, the 'memory leak' has been fixed, and Firefox now uses less memory than any other browser. This is according to Mozilla Developers.
I have to say, Firefox 3 is shaping up to be the best browser out, and that's not to say IE8 or Opera are bad browsers, it's just that I have grown to love Firefox and can't see myself moving to another browser. Although I do try as many browsers as I can, including betas and release candidates. The 'stable' release of Firefox 3 is nearing us, and there is only a few more bugs to iron out. |
