Default Firefox 3 Release Date Announced

Just spun out, when I installed it I saw RC all over the web page that sprung up after install.

Then came back here and read SG had waited for the server to be sorted and I got the idea it was because the filehippo link was for RC.

LOL.

Ahh, I was confused at first as well. When FF restarted it took me to the RC3 beta page. Looking at Help > About cleared it up though.

Over 1million downloads in less than 4hrs lol

Firefox 3, the long-awaited update of Mozilla's open source web browser was released earlier today. The download counter, which is projected on a large display screen here at Mozilla headquarters in Mountain View, CA, has been churning numbers at a rapid pace all morning. The display shows that Firefox has now exceeded 1 million downloads, with between 5,000 and 14,000 downloads per minute.
Now you know why the servers were down lol

Microsoft Mistakes Browser War for Browser Party, Sends Firefox a Lovely Cake

Quote:
Just like they did when Firefox 2 dropped, Microsoft has sent the guys over at Mozilla a congratulatory cake. The nerd food was delivered in person and was graciously accepted by the Firefox crew, who managed to hold back snide remarks about the cake's standard compliance and proprietary recipe long enough to take a few pictures. At least Microsoft has a sense of humor about their eroding market share.

5 - 14 K downloads a minute. Holy smokes. That is some serious bandwidth.
