Firefox about:config Tweaks
In Firefox 2 type about:config in the browser address bar press enter and then add the given command into the search box. Right click and select modify to change these behaviors. Most will require you to restart the browser to start working. ================== This works great with those looong threads. Go to the top or bottom of a page with a single middle mouse button click. Type about:config in the address bar and hit enter. In the filter list of the about:config window enter the following: middlemouse.scrollbarPosition Right click the entry that comes up in the window and click toggle to change the value to true Restart Firefox. Then middle click anywhere in the scroll bar area and the page/scrollbar instantly jumps to where you click. Top, bottom, middle or anywhere you desire. ========== Is there a way to turn off that little pop up thing in the bottom right of the screen that pops up everytime a download is finished saying "all downloads are complete"? Yes!!!! Type about:config in the address bar and hit enter. In the filter list of the about:config window enter the following: browser.download.manager.showalertoncomplete Right click the entry that comes up in the window and toggle to change the value to false No more "download complete" window. ========== Dont ever use the Go button next to the url box? Set the browser.urlbar.hideGoButton to true and gain a little more space. ==================== Also useful. How many times have you composed a long post or email message, then accidentally closed the tab or browser and lost all my work. No more! From the Tools menu choose Options, and in the Main area, select "Show my windows and tabs from last time" from the "When Firefox starts" dropdown. Then there is the Undo Closed Tabs Button Tired of going to History->Recently Closed Tabs just to undo a closed tab? Then this extension is for you! This extension allows you to undo closed tabs via a toolbar button, right-click context menu or even a shortcut (Alt+Z). ====================== Got any more really good ones? Add them here, I am always on the lookout for goog about:config twaeks. |

This stuff used to be on the Help menu. When did it disappear from there? (about:config)
There is an add-on now called Aboutmenu that adds all this stuff in a new menu. (Oh and if you don't see about:config as a link, get the Linkification add-on too!) |
