Does this web browser normally run faster than IE? I have just installed it but, so far it seems slow. also, does IE use resources even when it is not being used? if so is there a way to disable it in WIN XP Home? Thanks!

In order, "sometimes" and no. Firefox used to be a bit of a memory hog, check if you're running version 3.0. RAM upgrade might be useful as well.

I bet I should have re-booted after I first installed it after a re-boot, it's running better now. Thanks for your help!

Yea, it will run slower before you reboot to complete installation, but glad it's working properly now.
