Hope I'm posting in the right place.

Just wondering if someone can help me. (pleasssssse)

I'm having problems with my FTP.

I run a forum and have several ftp accounts for staff etc...the staff can access them fine but I can't login to any of them.

I thought it might have been something to do with my PC but I've just tried on my parents PC at a different home address/connection etc and I can't login from their pc either.

Basically I enter the address, the username and password and port 21 and i get "unable to resolve host"
"connection failed"
"trying again in 30s"

I've tried several ftp clients and they're all the same. I think I've been able to log in to my ftp account about 3 or 4 times in the last 6 months but all the other staff can access theirs fine, I can't log in to theirs either, nor can I log into the root folders or anything, it's driving me mad. I want to add some mods to the forum but am unable to without using the ftp, even for the likes of pics n stuff have had to resort to free image hosts instead.

I've tried with and without the firewall turned on, with antivirus turned off and on, have allowed the program via the firewall, nowt works!

Am at my wits end now, my host says there is nothing they can do, all is fine their end.

My ISP is Virgin Media, dunno if this is relevent?!

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thank you

Natalie x

More information please, first which is your host?
Try using the Smart FTP or the FileZilla.
Don't write your address into the Address Bar of the programs like Smart FTP like: "ftp:/ /yourname.com" you must write just "yourname.com".

I'd start by checking all the settings in your hosting control panel.

I've tried Smart FTP and Bulletproof FTP, neither let me login. On Smart FTP I get the error listed above, on Bulletproof I get "connection refused".

I've set up 3 ftp accounts tonight via the ftp manager in CPanel and I can't login to any of them.

What settings should I be checking in the CPanel?

(Thanks for the help, tis appreciated. x)

I've just spoken to support from the host I use and we've gone through some stuff, he says the settings are fine and it must be something my end, went through the host address, the ports etc..all are as they should be.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled my FTP client, completely uninstalled my antivirus and still not working, I'm getting:-

[04:21:57] No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
[04:21:57] Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)...
[04:21:57] Client closed the connection.

Did you closed your FTP connection from your CPANEL?

The server is refusing you.

Either the settings on the server and your machine don't match or the server is down.

I've written everything correctly for connecting and I tried connecting whilst I was talking to the support guy and it was still not letting me log in but he said the server was fine and up and running etc
