| Hello. My client is running windows 2000 pro service pack 4. He recently downloaded some sort of malware causing IE 6 sp 1 to not launch. He would click on the IE icon and the hour glass would show but IE would not open to its browser. I took a look in the event viewer and got this error message:"The description for Event ID(1001) in source (Microsoft Internet Explorer) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message dlls to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: iexplorer 6.0, ole32.dll." This message occurs everytime he launches IE6. I tried reinstalling IE6 sp 1, running sfc /scannow and did a system repair. IE6 still would not launch. The main problem has to do with ole32.dll file. I was able to successfully register the file through the regsvr32.exe command. I am thinking certain registry settings were corrupted. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the cause of the problem? I also ran combofix and installed avira antivirus. The pc is now completely clean of any viruses and malware. |
