Hi everyone, I'm posting to bring to knowing of that the Internet explorer that my work is using is slow. The Internet connects, but we do have 56K, but I know that it's originally slow, but it seems to be slower then it should be.

Also the only ISP I see or browser is Internet explorer. I don't see an ISP provider, it looks like were just using Internet Explorer. Can that be used as an ISP provider or is there something else that has to be used, because I don't think Internet explorer is an ISP provider?

What routes could you provide that I could try there, because my I'm curious to why it is so slow and my boss wants to know to, so I'm investigating the issue.

Could be that your ISP is having problems or could be that the PC has a virus or spyware on it.

If you are concerned about speed, get broadband.

Hi, that was quick response, I'll do the same. The thing is, can the ISP be just "Internet Explorer?

Because I didn't see any other sort of ISP. I dont' know if my work would go for broadband.

ISP = Internet Service Provider.

So what I'm saying is it may be a problem with the company who supply your Internet, they may be doing some maintenance or similar.

If the problem doesn't clear in 24-48 hours start looking at your PC.

56K modem? Of course things are slow!

Using a 56K modem is much more expensive than using broadband!

Do many people look at the internet? Then having all of them sharing that 56K modem will really drag things down to a crawl!!!

Internet Explorer is a browser, an application stored on your computer that allows you to view the internet.

An ISP, is a company that uses your telephone cable to send you bandwidth that allows you to connect to the internet.

The reason your connection may be slower than usual could be because of a few things.
Your ISP is having difficulty, who is your ISP, do you know? It is the person you pay. Try giving them a ring.

Also you could have spyware, or worse, a rogue dialer program. You could may well be dialing a premium rate number to connect to the internet.

TBH, the first port of call has to be a Spyware scan. See our downloads section for some good scanners, get spybot Search and destory.

Why do you use Internet Explorer in the first place of course it is going to be slow it's made by Microsoft. You know why you don't see these problems with FF? Because when a bug is found they fix it straight away while Microsoft sit on bugs for years.

There is no noticable difference in speed between IE and FF. Sensible suggestions have been made by several posters above.

FF will give the illusion that it is faster when you first start using it because when it goes to search the cache, it will be empty and so it can skip that bit, and initially appear faster. But if you use it regularly, the cache gets bigger and FF slows down.

But the cache helps reduce internet traffic overall, so continually emptying it will overall slow up the internet for everyone. Slagging off MS is not the correct response. Whatever browser this user uses, he is likely to be facing the same problems - read what he said, a 56K dial-up modem at work!!!

And I use Firefox all the time in preference to IE, but I still think such MS bashing is worthless "advice".
