I was looking around on my computer, and i realized that i have a ton of Java programs under my add/remove program screen. Is it safe to get rid of any of them?

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
Java(TM)5 Update 2

All of these are taken up over 100MB each and im just looking to clear up some space.

All of those should be removed with add/remove programs.

The current version is Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 2

After removing them go to www.java.com and get the latest version.

When you get that done you can use CCleaner to clean up your computer even more.

CCleaner
If you do not have CCleaner install it here. Download CCleaner
* Once CCleaner is open use the default options.
* Click Analyze and it will show a log of what will be removed.
* Next click Run Cleaner to remove everything.
* Then on the upper left of CCleaner select the Registry tab.
* Click Scan For Issues.
* Then click Fix selected issues.
* It will prompt you to make a backup. For the first run I would suggest doing so.
* Exit the program and you are done.

Be sure to uninstall the old one (6.2) manually.

Yes - you can safely remove all of them. Then download v. 6.3 and install.

NSA = National Security Agency standards.

DOD = Department Of Defense standards.

The more passes the more shredding is done.
Makes the wiped data harder to recover.
