New XP re-installation and it has no Internet Explorer

trying to help a friend, his computer just came out of shop, they formated hard drive and re-installed xp-
it has no internet explorer and i can't get online.
i use a cable modem and it says its connected, but won't go to anything,

i downloaded firefox on another computer and installed it, any help would be appreciated,
also device manager has no yellow flags

You must have IE, it comes embedded and you cannot uninstall it.

Try restarting the modem.

ok i searched for it in the files and found it, but still won't get online.
called cable provider and found out that there is no listing for the ethernet card in device manager, does that mean the driver is not there?

and where do i go to download the needed driver so i can save it to my flash drive and install it on that computer

Yes, you will need a working ethernet port for cable.

Do you physically have one?

yes, it worked before it went into shop
and it says its conected to the internet

If it's still not working then go into your device manager and click the big yellow alert symbol. Should have uninstalled devices, Windows will go and install some generic drivers and should solve your problem.
