Pronblem in opening sites..!!1

Hi...
Since last week i'm facing a problem with my net. Even though the net connection is on, websites dont open. And sometimes all the applications get stuck....don't hang, they just get stuck up.
Evrything gets bak normal as soon as i turn my modem off. So, i guess theres a problem in data transfer between my PC and modem. Not sure of it, but thats wat i think.
Any idea wat may b the problem...??
The only software i installed recently is "VC# 2008 Express Edition", from MS website. Its genuine, so wont b causing any harm.
I even re-installed my modem, but the problem still persists.

Den wats d problem wid my PC..??

Updates for..??
if u r talking of updates for IE, then yes, there are. I'm working with IE6 and and IE7 is available. Just being lazy to install it....lol.
but updating the explorer wont resolve the problem. I have continued with IE6 for pretty long time and it works well.
Besides, i got Mozilla installed in my PC as well, which is fully updated and the same problem occurs with it.
