Dear friends,

I have an old computer with Win 98 which, I think, includes IE 5 or 6.
My problem is that I can get a connection to the Internet (56 K for now) and I can open IE but that's all I can do.
I cannot open any sites on the blasting IE.
I have tried all the usual solutions, including uninstalling the antivirus just in case it was blocking the system.
But nothing worked.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

You could try resetting IE settings, this will take everything back to default and rule out whether it is the issue.

Right.
I resetted IE 6 settings according to an article I found on the Net and I did it twice to make sure it was OK.
But IE still doesn't work.
I am giving you hereunder more clues so that you can have a better guess as to what the problem may be-

(1) When I try to open a site (which I can't), I get the message "IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND THE SERVER" (my computer is in Italian)

(2) right at the bottom right of the screen, I get :

- two little green tv-sets (which, I think, mean that I have the connection to the Internet)

- to the left of the two little green tv-sets I get like a little traffic light with two dots, but the two dots remain red. Could this mean there is a problem with the Internet connection?

Remember I have Windows 98.

I hope you can help.
Thanks in advance

I think the traffic lights is a phishing filter, which I have always found either slow me right down, or prevent me from accessing the site at all. If you right click it you should be able to disable it.
