What's your favorite desktop environment? I use FluxBox because it is very speedy on even ancient hardware.

Ubuntu is a good choice, in my opinion. It is more user-friendly and very well documented on the internet.

Just downloaded it, going to have a play over the weekend.

I'll be keeping it dual boot I think.

When I first started out with Linux I kept a dual boot, I started in 2002/2003 with Linux (after on off trying since 1996) and I kept dual boot for years, I took the plunge in 2004 with Mandrake 10 and later Mandriva. From that moment on windows was just for games. And in september last year I deleted my last Windows 2000 system, it's all Linux now.

But granted, if you are just getting into Linux I would allways keep a dual boot system, if things don't work out or when you mess up you allways have a backup.

Compiz and Beryl are merging. Both are still experimental but it works very very good even though it is just eyecandy, I'm Running Beryl on a Gnome Gui with Ubuntu. Beryl is way too heavy for my laptop so that one runs compiz (and very well I may add)

In short, in a couple of months you are going to see a whole new compiz, a compiz beryl or beryl compiz with more skins and better management.

Cool ain't it :-)

Ubuntu would never work with my current box (I have it installed but it won't recognize video or network), so after my new build is complete I'm going to dual boot ubuntu beryl with vista. I'll never be able to make the full switch because with school and my profession they always require windows this or that, but I'm excited anyway
