Linux is not windows. Linux is for advanced computer users. If you are not an advanced computer user (IE: know at least one programming language) then give up now.

If you are looking for using Red Hat Linux, then I would suggest you try Fedora Core 6. It is based on Red Hat and it's easy to use. If you only want Redhat then you have to reach their site and get the copy.

Hi cardasusia

I found that the easiest Linux based OS to use is Ubuntu its nearly 700MB download ISO file and you burn as bootable "runs live with the option to install to HDD" includes the Linux boot loader "Grub" so if you decide to install "works best on the first partition of a second internal HDD" you will have the option of dual boot

Read more / Download > Here

Note I do suggest that you read all yo can about compatibility before you install any Linux OS

The post by Cyberbabe is indeed correct and I'll add this, if you have a Speedtouch USB modem, Ubuntu does not have the drivers for it.

I found Linux a complete pain (when i did get it working) you will find many applications just wont run with it, so if your going to have Linux you need to use the programs and Drivers that are compatible with it, good luck.

Hi,

Drivers? What kind of exotic laptop or hardware do you want to run?

There are a lot of good and easy to install Linux distros out there, here in no particular order whatsoever are a few of the best.

- Ubuntu (www.ubuntu.org)
-.Mepis (www.mepis.org)
- Mandriva (www.mandriva.com)

If you are just starting out with Linux, don't use Red Hat, Red Hat has forked years ago, the Red Hat Distro is for servers only, Fedora (former Red Hat desktop linux) is for desktops.

If you are just starting with Linux, try either Mepis or Ubuntu. I've run (and still run) this on several HP and Toshiba Laptops. Works great.
