hey i just installed windows but partitioned 20gb on the hard drive and installed ubuntu on the partitioned space. throught the installation there was no problems but when i restarted my computer while it was starting up it comes up with "ERROR 17" and stops starting up.

you may need to re-install grub follow these steps

boot the ubuntu live cd, go to terminal and type sudo grub this will get you a grub prompt at this promt type Code:
find /boot/grub/stage1 Next, THIS IS IMPORTANT, whatever was returned for the find command use it in the next line (you are still at grub>. when you enter the next 3 commands) Code:
root (hd?,?) now type this Code:
setup (hd0) Code:
quit now grub will be re-installed and if you need help configuring it i can instruct you My System: Cewy's wonder macine

What age was the computer? On some older models, if the boot files are too far down a large drive they will be inaccessible to the BIOS.
