Question Games on Linux

I've been thinking about switching my rig's OS to Linux, because many jobs in the gaming industry require some experience in it, but I don't know if you can play regular PC games on Linux. I love my rig and ive spent too much money on it to switch to Linux if you can't play regular games on it. Do they make special versions of PC games specificly for Linux or does Linux support them all. oh and If Linux doesnt, is there a Linux version of WoW, because im planning on getting it again.

thanks,

Jr

Most of the newer titles are not supported at all, but there is a program called Wine that lets you play WOW on it and a few others.
Here is a tutorial on how to get WOW working in Linux

I have not tried Linux, Ubuntu or any other, most of my knowledge is just from what I have read
Hope that helps:)

Even more info for you, here is a list of all of the apps and games that run on Linux through Wine

Not as bad as I originally thought, but with the games your performance will suffer greatly

You could load Linux and set up a dual boot or use VM ware though VM ware cuts your resources by about half.

don't take this the wrong way, but linux experience is probably the least of your problems trying to break into the gaming development world, none of the development studios in the UK (codemasters etc...) seem to be too worried about it when I've talked to them. Learn Linear algebra and the inner workings of things like directx, C and gaming development patterns, rather than stressing about linux.

If you do choose to get linux, there is software called cedega which will play literally any windows game out there. (small print: it costs about 2:50 a month)

And the fun part is that Cedega actually works pretty well.
