Are you referring to a version that has good driver support? I would recommend Ubuntu 8.10 or Fedora 10. They are both very well designed and you can do most of the things you need to do right after there installed.

I would say Ubuntu. After you install there is so much you can do with it to make it your own. Or you can just run it off of a live cd and go from there but i dont think you get the full effect of the Os that way.

I know this post is a week old but thought I would give my 2 cents anyways.

There is no distro that has it all in my opinion since everyone's needs differ. Some distros are great for a complete OS replacement while others are geared for being a firewall, gaming os, rescue cd, ect...

If you look here they have many of the available distros labeled as to what they specialize in:

For what it is worth, Ubuntu is my favorite also

Nice site clark :D My opinion is Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 is your best and safest bet. It is the newest release of ubuntu and is a very popular linux distro. It has a large driver support base and has lots of followers therefore lots of help :D Its a premium OS in my opinion!

Im loving the site. nice play. I think Ubuntu is the best for people that are just getting into Linux. With all of its support and the easy install via wubi or live cd. i have been using it for about a year now and its only going to grow and get better.
