Hi. I have been having some issues concerning my IBM Thinkpad T42 Laptop. I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 and for some reason the OS sees my sound card, but does not produce sound. My sound card is Intel AC 97.

An example error message: Sound device not installed.

I have all the latest updates, ALSA, etc.

Can someone please assist me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

woohoo! i love that error !

it took me a long while to fix that (edgy eft version)...
it was a long time ago, so i forgot how to fix it..

but i do remember that you have to install ALSA and its dependencies (dependencies, it is required)..

also, go to the sound settings and troubleshoot some in there..
