Default Im scared of Linux

Ok, /\. Yes im very scared of it. Ive been using windows my whole life and Im switching to Linux because alot of gaming industry jobs require it(dont try to talk me out of it). I need to know if its going to be hard to learn, i consider myself an expert Windows user, I've just about mastered the entire windows xp interface.

How much is different with Linux, and wtf is Ubuntu, SUSE, that M word, and that stuff. if i sound ignorant your wrong, lol im just trying to put this in as few words as possible. Plz let me know any problems i might run into. Im getting a copy of Linux 2006 SR-2 English edition, if you reccemond me getting a different linux for the reason im changing to it, lemme know.

I think you should begin the transformation by dual booting Ubuntu with your XP
You can download or order a copy of Ubuntu (a version of linux allegedly the easiest for windows users to transform wit) at https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

yes, you can use the live CD just to test it out and run the OS from the CD but if you like it and decide to install you just use its partitioner to make a couple partitions and use the GRUB for dual booting. It's all very simple to figure out if you know computers already, not to mention you can always google any questions you have or visit the ubuntu forums

Best thing is to divy up the harddisk you have using your windows partition manager (if you have one) Then install Ubuntu and let it use your free space ( it will add a bootmanager if you want)

the 3d desktop is easy, Compiz is standard under 7.04 and if you want more use Synaptic (under system administration) to download Beryl.

If you have Ubuntu, change the session type before logon to a 3d desktop

Linux only supports like, 5% of all games for computers, but i use both every week day at school. its not that hard to get used it. it even comes with a fun rip off of Super Mario, only with a penguin! XD
