Default Linux on laptop

im currently saving up for my first pc build, but once im done with that im looking into getting a laptop and installing linux on it (probably ubuntu), rite now i have ubuntu 7.10 installed on a virual pc in win xp (using vmware) and i love it! so i will probably install it on the laptop, so my question is what is a good cheap laptop to install this on, iv been looking around and found a nice one at my local costco, it was $599 intel core 2 duo with 1gb of ram and i think a 80gb hard drive(mayb more), i forget the make..think it was a hp but not sure, also i see dell sells laptops with ubuntu preinstalled, thy start at $799 or someting like that, would i be better off just buying one of those?

Yes you might be better getting ones preloaded with Ubuntu, because then you won't have to sort out the inevitable driver issues the OS swap will bring.

It might void the warranty, but as long as you restore it to Windows before you take it to be repaired in the event of a breakage they should fix it under warranty. I haven't heard of any other copanies selling laptops preloaded with Linux but you can prove me wrong.
