They're what you type into a terminal console. You run the terminal console, it gives you a window to type in, you type each line in turn and (if it works) the wireless becomes available.

Cew knows far more about these things than I do, he uses the distribution regularly.

Ok, i tried the live cd, and i honestly...don't like it. It doesnt syn well with my macbook at all, id rather use mac os x on my mac then linux. the trackpad features are all disabled on mint, the whole terminal and wifi isnt working for me, and its not as nice as i expected it to be. when im on mint, it wont even let me go into my harddrive... it says permision illegal or something.

if you can solve all these problems (besides the trackpad becuase idc about trackpad 2 much) then id be happy to use linux

I wouldn't think twice about it, I'd run the Tiger or Leopard it was issued with. That matches the hardware faultlessly, it's a completely slick and professional operating system on an awesome piece of hardware. The only reason I'd fight my way onto another operating system is if there was a program I simply had no choice but to run and it didn't run on what I had. If that were the case I expect I'd sell the Macbook to someone who wanted to use it as Apple intended and buy a properly integrated hardware / software replacement to do that specialist job with.

the truth is linux isnt there to comfort you as you enter the os for the first time by making everything just work, it take a bit more setting up and thanks to the fact that not everything is done for you it means it is much faster than less bloated than windows and mac osx
what trackpad features do you mean ? and can you post the output of lspci
remember the live disk is only a small fraction of the operating system, it just to give you a feel for it

i already said i would help you, add me on msn or i can help you here
first off it depends how the hardware emulates the mouse, if it considers 2 fingers on the mouse pad as the equivalent to both left and right buttons down on the mouse this will work as it will emulate an extra button on the mouse in linux
but first is wireless
post the results of lspci in terminal

A new problem occured. now when i put my Live Cd in my PC, it turns on, goes to the advertisements of the manufacurture. then it becomes blank in the screen and stays like that forever.

this didnt happen to my mac..
also i found a gret site to help me get all the drivers for my mac, so thanks for all of you who helped

ALSO:
what are gnome, kde and xfce
these are interfaces that linux uses, for example kubuntu, ubuntu and xubuntu are all pretty much the same apart from the interface, the internals are the same but there are some differences i can not recommend which to use here it is purely down to preference
here are a few screen shots of the different interfaces
Gnome - this is my desktop
kde
xfce
remember all of the above screen shots aren't "stock" the users have customises them for their preferences as this is incredibly easy on linux. you can customise anything from the login screen to the icons.

I got the xfce version of mint, will that effect beryl, when i am on youtube looking at beryl effects video i never see people using the xfce gui. is it a burdon or is there something to it. what do you recomend i use. gnome or xfce
