can you post a screenshot of your xfce deskop?
also xfce uses less resources than gnome but is considered less configurable
also you will want the current release of mint the beta is as it says a beta (infact i think its an alpha) meaning it is buggy and test version download the supported current one (daryna)

i havent installed my xkce yet. im running of a live cd for the gnome version on my mac and the cd wont work for my pc.

ok well download and burn the gnome 4.0 daryna mint and try it on your pc

As for the special attractions of Xfce you'll find more detail than either of us can provide piecemeal by reading the article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xfce

There's also a comparison of the major alternatives at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...p_environments which shows what home-rolled packages each desktop environment provides. Xfce has no inbuilt CD ripper, Office suite, Web browser or email client. That's not likely to matter to most users, they'd use the conventional offerings for those functions like firefox and thunderbird.

The entire point of asking is that driver compatibility is dependent on which crappy intel/sony motherboard you have. We can't be specific in our pinpointing of the problem unless you're specific in telling us where to look.
