I have tried both Mint and Ubuntu. And when i Turn on my computer with the OS CD in my computer, the logo for the Computer and processor come on, then a message saying something about Linux Kernel comes on for a split second. After that the screen stays black, and never boots to the OS Installer. Ubuntu and Mint

ok when you start the live cd you should see a list of options saying start ubuntu and advanced or something along those lines?
you should see an option to set boot parameters
boot apci=off
set that then retry
