| This is my monthly check up of my ubuntu system and i want to give a couple critisizm and compliments of ubuntu. if you can help me solve the critisizm, please do so. thanks Bad 1. My amarok player is laggy and whenever i click on a new song the player freezes, becomes black and white, and then plays the song after about 5 seconds. 2. Compiz-Fusion ≠ Dual Monitors; For example, on a Windows XP, i just drag the window to the other monitor. but on ubuntu when i drag my window to the right (where my 2nd monitor is) it goes to Desktop 2 on the primary monitor. 3. The themes are quite ugly, i havent found a single decent theme on ubuntu. Theyre all either too bulky or too spacy and just ugly. I have great themes on my Windows XP as in Windows Vista theme which looks nice, but all the vista themes i have found for ubuntu are ugly and look super fake 4. Its not that stable... My firefox freezes and i have to force quit on ubuntu just as many times as i do on a windows XP. 5. None of my drivers work except my Video Card. Meaning, my TV Card doesnt work at all, my Remote control wont work on my Ubuntu, My sound card on my comptuer doesnt work to its full capability, for example i have 5.1 speakers connected, but Ubuntu only plays 2 of those speakers and i cant control my subwoofer, center, and back speakers. 6. Adobe Photoshop CS2 doesnt run as smooth as Cew says it does. atleast for me... 7. Its not as fast as many ppl say it is...when i open My Computer it takes the same amount of time as it does on Windows XP as well when im searching for files. Compliments 1. Cool looking effects 2. No blue screen of death...yet 3. Open Source 4. Its free If someone can solve my critisizm. that would be amazing. if you cant. well i might as well just switch back to M$...=(. I guess good guys dont always wins, im being sucked rite back in to the corperate monopoly machine |

| If I remember right, the first thing I ever said to you is that choosing your software is step one. The software implies the most suitable operating system. What you're trying to do is so blatantly best served by running on a Microsoft operating system that I have no idea why you don't just accept it as a fact.

Microsoft operating systems are very wonderful, take advantage of them. There's no single answer that's best for everything, there's best for specific circumstances. Your computing needs are heartland Microsoft territory for the simple reason that your chosen computing packages were written and tested to run that way. If, someday, you decide to cater for your requirements with open source applications you may find it's a different situation and you can re-evaluate. My System: Tim

1. amarok is made for the kde environment not gnome, however i found it worked fine for me, use rythmbox 2.i have never used dual monitors but in two weeks time hardy will be out with better monitor support 3. the themes for ubuntu are outstanding, go to www.gnome-look.org there are plenty 4.it is very stable as an os however firefox isnt and that is the same for all distro's but hopefully the new firefox 3 will be better implemented 5.ubuntu's drivers are programmed by volunteer open source coders, considering all the hardware avalible out at the moment i think ubuntu has done a damn fine job on getting lots of the drivers together, every single piece of hardware on my pc works flawlessly 6.in what way doesnt it run smooth, again this is not ubuntu's fault but wine and codeweavers, it will get better in time with the new funding 7. it may not be as fast for you but it certainly is for me and most other users, as for file searching it depends on the amount of files and pc specs one thing i hate is when people go to gnu/linux and then complain about how its not like windows, no its not like windows because its not windows! | Cewy, I have no problem with your enthusiasm but "choosing your software is step one" is inevitable. Some people simply have a non-negotiable need to run a given package and all the enthusiasm in the world isn't going to make it run if it doesn't run on existing emulators. It's not silly advice, that's like telling God he got his Ten Commandments wrong, it's an inevitable consequence of life, the universe and everything.

| if you are referring to photoshop of course it is ported for microsfts software but its people like me who are tying to make people see the other light, most people think there are only two operating systems out there, the more people use linux the better it will get, the more people that brush it aside the bigger the dictator ship that is windows becomes

| What I actually had in mind was Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, and anyone running that's likely to be using Mac OSX rather than one of Redmond's products. There really are people whose jobs depend on that package working perfectly. By all means advise people and show them the benefits but don't oversell. Nobody wants a disappointed customer.
