Default Transfer Files Between Linux and XP?

Well certainly Linux can read NTFS partitions which XP uses... however, XP cant read linux partitions by default... lol.. the easiest way for me is get an external usb hard drive and start from there. both of them are able to read/write on that :)

Not all linux flavors can recognize NTFS (your XP might be in NTFS). Use linux like PCLINUXOS. I can transfer files between XP and pclinuxos without problem. It's one linux very usable for me.I suggest when you installed your linux use FAT32 partition.

Transfer is tricky, XP can't see a Linux partition (bad xp BAD!) while Linux can see (you need to mount the drive) but can't write it because it is NTFS.

There are freeware tools for XP to let it read Ext 2 and 3 so that is easily solved. There is also a tool under Linux which allows you to use the XP driver for NTFS so you can write the disk.

Most people I know use a share disk, a USB harddisk or a share partition in their system that is FAT32. This works pretty well, unless you need to transfer a file bigger than 2GB, FAT32 can't handle files bigger than 2GB.....

Personally I would mount the NTFS drive under linux and use the info on http://www.linux-ntfs.org/ to make it write. Under XP use free waretools and you're there.
