Default Ubuntu 6.06 Boot Issue

I installed Ubuntu 6.06 the other day i know its outdated but i upgraded to 8.04 and after i upgraded i rebooted my PC and it wouldn't load properly it was going into blue box or something the only way i can get to boot properly is select the third ...
