Hey all, a few months ago Vista kept freezing on me, I tried everything I and around 100 Google searches could think of. So i tried re installing it, but it gave me an error message along the lines of "an unexpected shut-down has caused an error in the installing process, press enter to restart the installation" even though there was no shutdown during the installation I followed the onscreen instruction and it would reboot, and display the same error. A few hours later I'd given up and installed Ubuntu over Vista and it all went flawlessly. Cant say I'd ever go back to Vista, Not after all the little bugs that would keep coming back. So anyway's long story cut short I've been using Ubuntu for a short while now and was wondering if installing anti-virus was necessary? my day to day computer usage is around 70% Youtube, 20% Watching DVDs/films, 10% Googling random questions that I think of, I don't suppose im at any threat in Ubuntu am I? Just thought id double check to be safe, cheers.

I dont see any reason NOT to run one, so yeah, why not be safe. Either way 99% of the time it is very easy to infect a PC running any AV. The user and how careful they are are the best form of protection.

i dont think it is necessary
it is one of the safest operating systems and since its open source, anyone around the world can help, so any threats are covered almost immediately unlike in windows most viruses are aimed at windows if you are paranoid about them (as most windows users are) then it wont hurt to put one |
