for all user using linux or wanting to try it i am here to inform you that the new ubuntu (hardy heron 8.04) is being released in april and it looks mighty promising. it is a long term support release so it should be incredibly stable and boast many improvements over gutsy gibbon such as
faster boot time and more efficient boot
new application libraries
3rd party repositor
new ubuntu theme (hooooray)
gui xorg configuration (bullet proof x)
single click install
and better support for up to 10 monitors!
# for those who dont know each release of ubuntu has a code name that is alphabetically sequential e.g.
edgy eft
fiesty fawn
gutsy gibbon
hardy heron
# also they release number (7.10, 8.04) are because ubuntu has a 6 month release cycle meaning a new release is available every 5 months (much better than Microsoft 6 years
(7.10 = month 10 2007 and 8.04 = month 4 (april) 2008)

I'm not sure about the logic of "long term support release so it should be incredibly stable". I can believe it should become incredibly stable but I can't see how they'd make the initial release any more stable than normal Ubuntu first releases.

On the other hand, normal Ubuntu first releases are stable anyway. There's a lot of effort goes into that, I'm delighted with the progress they've made on behalf of the Open Source paradigm.

From the rumblings at Microsoft I think there's going to be the mother of all lawsuits from them sometime in the next five years which will stretch on exactly the way the SCO suit has, deliberately muddying the Intellectual Property waters to try to prevent large-scale corporate uptake. Bill Gates is the greatest hero of the twentieth century but it's not his call, Microsoft has shareholders and the ugly face of capitalist enterprise has to show itself.

well this is a long term support release meaning that it will be more appealing to companies as it will be supported for a few years to come, there for ubuntu are making most of the improvements of this edition on stability and bug fixes, not looks and programs
