I took a look at mint. looks nice, whats the difference between it and ubuntu, and can I run all ubuntu software

yes you can ubuntu is based on deb packages so all the software that's for ubuntu works with mint and debian, also all linux programs are interchangeable so you can run programs from any distribution but they sometimes aren't supplied in your specific package for exampled you could want a photo editor that is only available in rpm (red hat) if that's the case you can get the source and compile it in 30 seconds

linux mint is basically ubuntu with a better theme, all propietory codecs and with a few extra tools, anything you can do in mint you can do in ubuntu and vise versa it is just to make installation and setup easier
however there is no 64 bit available

You seem to know a lot about Mint and Ubuntu, can I run Beryl on mint??? and can you help me do it, i don't know how

you can run beryl or compiz on mint and ubuntu, i am running compiz but bery has more effect and looks better but i have heard it is a little less unstable
