I recently purchased a dvd of Sabayon linux 4 operating system.

I am unable to boot this live system. My attempt at booting goes directly to my grub page then on to whatever system i select.

My boot sequence is as follows:
On board cd-rom
On board sata harddrive
On board floppy

I have a cd-rom drive and also a dvd+r/-rw drive both are LG Mfg.

The dvd is from a reputible company that I have used numerous times in the past with no problems.

Help will be appreciated.

Hi there

If its a case of the live disc not booting then check the obvious and check your PC is set to boot from your CDRom in the BIOS, if the disc is booting from the CDRom but not fully booting to the O/S then either the distro is not compatiable with your computer hardware, or the disc is dodgy, linux disc are best burned at a low speed, if it has been burned at higher speed then errors can occur.

Thanks for the reply.
As you can see in my first post I am set to boot from cd-rom then sata harddrive. When the dvd disc is inserted it skips cd-rom and boot harddrive.

The dvd disc is from a reputable company and I have never had any problems with any of there disc.

Please explain incompatibility with computer hardware. Where should I be looking to find out if I can run this distro.

It either runs or it doesnt!, I have tried many distros on this computer I am currently using. I have tried sabayon myself and found it very slow loading on this machine, on the other hand I have tried Ubuntu/Fedora without any major problems, but other distros such as Mandriva/PCLinuxOS simply do not boot. Case of trial and error and finding a distro that works for you.

I have another dvd coming from the vendor and he has verified it runs on his computers.

As far as other distro's I have run live cd's of Puppy Linux,Pioneer Basic,Ubuntu,PcLinuxOS,Koppix.

I only have trouble with DVD distro of Sabayon. It has been suggested that even if my dvd drive runs movies that it could be faulty at booting dvd's.

A search of my dvd drive leads me to many problems with this model of LG drive. Maybe it is the drive but want to try all other fixes before changing drives.

Thanks for all the help.
