Does ATI have Linux drivers for it online? It should.
They might be tricky to install, couldn't do it myself, so yeah.

ok i ran the driver installer, and it started unpackeging and whatever..then a message came up and said i need to be a "Super User" to run the program. Im thinking thats root, so i logged into ubuntu as root in safe mode, and uh, i dont have a clue how to run the program in that
im running that installer file out of my ipod nano, called TEHSHIZNITZ, if that helps.

You do NOT have to log into Ubuntu as root (in fact you can't) Safe mode is intended for maintenance and you will NOT be root there either.

goto system--administration Restricte Drivers.

You will need to input your root pwd here when prompted (During install you were prompted for your root pwd/SUDO pwd)

That means that the "standard" driver is enabled. I've got one radeon system which works like that. To test it, go to system and preferences and enable desktop effects.

If that works your 3d works. If it doesn't it means you must force enable your ATI driver.

These links will help you. Be advised that the newest ATI driver is buggy and ATI is working on the problem.
