UNIX was developed in the 1960s @ Bell Labs. Most Linux systems are either derived from UNIX or are at least UNIX-like.

Unix is a server opearting systemLinux is a user operating systemto make it close to your mindUnix is liks MS-DOS while Linux is like MS-Windowsthe big differnce is in the interface one using command and other one use GUI interface and sure is more easy to use

Default whati s the difference between unix and linux ?

Linux is based on Unix. The difference is Linux is open source, which allows the creation of many different versions. I believe it also has a different kernel. Basically if you can do it in Unix, you can do it in Linux. Linux has also a better graphic interaction with the user compared to Unix.
